Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history.
Starry Night painted in oil on canvas in June 1889. The subject is the view from the east-facing window of his room in Saint-Remy-de-Provence just before sunrise, with the addition of an imaginary village. Since 1941 it has been kept at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
