Tis the season for getting jolly and creating the perfect holiday setting at home! Nothing makes it feel more like the holidays than putting up the Christmas tree. Be sure to ask you family and friends to come over to make it an even more fun activity and start a new family holiday tradition. Here are our tips on creating a dazzling Christmas tree decorations.
If you love the smell of pine and don’t mind daily watering and falling needles, a fresh-cut tree is right up your street. For those who prefer a more environmental option or just don’t want to deal with the mess of a real tree, an artificial Christmas tree is the perfect alternative. Take time to fluff and shape each and every branch (artificial trees especially need serious "fluffing") to give it that full and authentic look.
Lights provide a beautiful backdrop for decorations and make the tree look voluminous and extra sparkly. If your tree isn’t pre-lit, start by arranging your lights from the top, working your way down, wrapping lights around every major branch. To avoid the need for an extension chord, place the tree near a plug socket.
Garlands and ribbons are the best way to add extra texture and dimension to your tree. Again, start from the top and loosely weave it across branches, placing it far toward the end of the branches as you go down.
At this stage, before putting on the ornaments, add the eye-catching topper. Angels and stars are a classic choice. If you're not keen on either of these, there are other options like snowflakes and icicles.
The key is to hang the ornaments evenly around the tree, starting with plain-colored ones as a base and adding in more decorative and bright later. Layer from top to bottom, working from the inside out, and build dimension by placing the largest Christmas ornaments deeper into the tree and smaller ornaments on the ends of branches. Handcrafted ornaments unique pieces are always very special and memorable (take a look at our collection of hand-blown and hand-painted ornaments), so you would probably want these to have the best placement for viewing. It’s better to showcase them in prime positions on the uppermost and outermost branches. A fun idea for a new holiday tradition is to host an ornament swap with your loved ones giving each other unusual handmade and themed ornaments and decorations.
