Aluminum Milk Canister

Aluminum canisters, such as this, have been extensively used in the Soviet Union – just ask anyone who grew up in that now non-existent country. Many remember large ZIL trucks, lumbering between milk factories and milk stores and markets, carrying enlarged versions of this canister, full of milk. Reminiscent of that time, this canister stands as a stoic reminder of the mad whirlwind of fate, negative to many around the world, yet still complexly important for all, an event, which lasted for slightly less than a century and was, in its essence, a grand social experiment, called the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Aluminum canisters, newspapers, used to wrap smoked fish in, and sacks made of thin, wide-holed netting, used for carrying groceries, if and when any were available in stores – these are the real symbols of that time.
