Bluebell Gzhel Clock

Gzhel is the name of a picturesque rural region near Moscow that developed its own unique style of creating and decorating porcelain products. The traditional Gzhel porcelain designs use blue paint to create amazing, fairy tale ornaments on tableware and other porcelain products. According to an ancient legend, the bluebell flower chimes once each year - during the magical night on the eve of Ivan Kupala Day. Having been incorporated into the Orthodox Christian pantheon of holidays, Ivan Kupala Day is associated with the Feast of St. John the Baptist, though its origins go back to the pagan Slavic holiday dedicated to Kupala, the god of fertility and sexuality.
