This wonderful art tapestry showcases "The Chocolate Girl" (fr. La Belle Chocolatiere), one of the best-known works of an XVIII century Swiss artist, Jean-Etienne Liotard. The painting shows a servant girl, carrying hot chocolate. The painting is done with pastel on parchment. The legend, surrounding the creation of this piece contends that in 1745, an Austrian aristocrat, the Count of Dietrichstein, came into a Vienna cafe to try a new chocolate drink that was the talk of the town at the time. His server turned out to be Anna Baltauf, coming from a family of impoverished nobles. The Count was won over by Anna's charm and, despite his family's objections, married her. "The Chocolate Girl" painting was Anna's wedding present, which the Count commissioned to a young artist from Switzerland, Jean-Etienne Liotard. Thus, the artist's painting of a beautiful XVIII century cafe server, immortalized this love at first sight story, which you will be able to enjoy for years to come in the form of our beautiful wall tapestry!
