This unique matryoshka nesting doll represents several important scenes surrounding the birth of Christ. Everyone knows the story of the birth of Jesus,as told by the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. But few know the reason, why Bethlehem was the town of Jesus' birth. In fact, the Roman Emperor Augustus initiated an Empire-wide population census and in order to make this process more efficient, every citizen was required to appear at his or her native town. Because Mary and Joseph were descendants of David, their native town was Bethlehem. That is how Bethlehem became the holy birthplace of Jesus Christ.
