Clover Leaf Egg Jewelry Box

The Clover Leaf Egg is a jeweled Easter egg crafted in 1902 by jeweler to the Russian imperial court Peter Carl Fabergé (1846–1920) for Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. It was presented by Nicolas II as an Easter gift to his wife, Tsarina Alexandra Fyodorovna. It is currently held in the Kremlin Armory Museum in Moscow, and is one of the few Imperial eggs that have never left Russia. The Clover Leaf Egg is made of an openwork pattern of stems and leaves of clover forming the shape of an egg. The gaps between the metal outline of the leaves are covered with transparent bright green enamel. A very thin golden ribbon is encrusted with ruby curls through the foliage. The surprise in the egg has been lost but according to archives it is reported to be a four leaf clover with twenty three diamonds, and four miniature portraits of the four daughters of the Tsar: Olga, Tatiana, Maria, and Anastasia.
