COMMEDIA DEL ARTE (Italian Commedia dell'Arte, from Commedia – "comedy, theater" and l'Arte – "craft, skill, profession"; see "art") is a traditional Italian street theater also called the comedy of masks. It was born in the 10th century in Venice, the city of processions and carnivals. Together with Harlequin, Pulcinello is the most popular mask in Commedia dell'Arte. He is a joker, is always happy, and often carries a satirical note in Commedia del Arte plays. This beautiful clown is made of blue velvet and gold brocade and wears half-lowered socks for shoes.
