According to legend, Saint Ursula was a British princess, who adopted Christianity. Trying to avoid a forced marriage to a pagan prince, she embarked on a pilgrimage, on which she, along with 11,000 virgins, who converted to Christianity because of St. Ursula, were martyred near Cologne. This painting was done by Caravaggio in 1641.
