The factory that produces this amazing porcelain was founded by an English merchant Frances Gardner in 1761. Gradually, his descendants "russified," converted to Orthodox Christianity, and were granted Russian nobility titles. Together with the Imperial porcelain factory, Gardner's factory in Verbilki became the supplier of the very highest quality porcelain, selling their products only to the top classes of the Russian society.
