Gzhel Avdonin Serving Plate - Blue and white plate

This Gzhel porcelain plate resembles a clear blue lake with pure, ice-cold water. The blue color of Gzhel gives the feeling of peace, freshness, and freedom, with the wonderfully-fancy flowers painted the deepest and most mysterious deep blue. The light scattering of petals, buds and the subtle curls create the look of water ripples, as if some fantastically beautiful nymphs and fairies are about to come out to dance on the lake's surface. This plate's shape and design were created by one of the top artists, Vasily Avdonin, the oldest master in the Gzhel association. Many of his other works are exhibited in the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the State Historical Museum in Moscow, Russia.
