The development of the Irish Lace style of crocheting is credited to Mlle Riego de la Blanchardiere, the daughter of a French-Spanish nobleman and an Irish woman. De la Blanchardiere developed a way to create lace that looked just like Venetian lace, but could be done with a crochet. Since then, Irish lace has been considered the standard of elegance and taste!
