The formula for the traditional 80-proof vodka was developed by the great Russian chemist, Dmitry Mendeleev, in 1865. He also helped to create the main type of Russian vodka, called Moscow Special. Mendeleev's chemistry, involved in this drink, has since always been respected and honored in Russia, where great vodka-drinking traditions still exist and are often practiced (some even practice it every day!).
