The Little Humpbacked Horse is a ballet in four acts and eight scenes, based on the fairy tale The Little Humpbacked Horse by Pyotr Yershov. It is the story of the typical Russian old-folktale hero - "Ivan the fool" who with the help of a magical horse, defeats an evil Khan and wins the hand of the Tsar- Maiden. Eventually, Ivan becomes a Tsar himself. The ballet was first presented by the Imperial Ballet in December, 1864 at the Imperial Bolshoi Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. This particular ballet became an important stepping stone in the development and history of Russian ballet, as it was the first ballet based on a Russian story! This wonderful fairy tale tea set features the bright images of a richly decorated palace, as well as the main characters of the story - Ivan the fool and the Tsar-Maiden, and, of course, the main magical creature - the cute little humpbacked horse!
