Mikhailovsky Palace Jewelry Box is suitable for storing precious items, jewelry, and keepsakes.
Nestled elegantly on Saint Petersburg’s Arts Square, the Palace shines as a neoclassical masterpiece by Italian-born architect Carlo Rossi. Commissioned in the early 19th century for Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich, its gleaming corridors once hosted salons and gatherings that shaped the city's cultural spirit
Materials and painting: The box is completely handcrafted from papier-mâché. Linseed oil, lacquer, tempera, and gold leaf are used in the decoration. Upon the finished painting, artists add the finest strokes and create minute details. The final touch of each painting and the box is the golden patterns that frame each miniature. The gold paint is made from crushed gold leaf.
The uniqueness of the miniature painting lies in the meticulous and detailed depiction of the scene.
