According to legend, Possibly the most revered and well-known Russian Orthodox icon, Our Lady of Kazan was originally acquired from Constantinople, lost in 1438. After a fire destroyed Kazan in 1579, the Virgin appeared in a prophetic dream to a 10-year-old girl and told her where to find the precious image again. Found in immaculate condition it soon began to be associated with various miracles.
The creation of such an icon takes a considerable amount of time. The icon is carved from natural wood. Then the master pays special attention to the elaboration of small details and decorations. The icon is completely covered with high-quality lacquer, which gives it a special gloss, but also protects from external factors.
