The Our Lady of Vladimir (Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God) is one of the most well-known Orthodox icons. It is presently located in the Church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachi in Moscow, Russia. Words cannot describe this icon; any verbal expression would be hollow compared to the gaze of the Our Lady of Vladimir Icon from her image. This look contains everything – life and death; resurrection, eternity, immortality. As a work of art, the Our Lady of Vladimir is widely regarded as the most important icon produced during the Comnenian period. Scholars believe that it expresses deeper humanity and emotionality than that typical of previous Byzantine art.
