Snow Maiden Palekh Gift Pen Case

In the Russian folklore, the Snow Maiden, or Snegurochka is first mentioned in the 19th century folk tale about a girl, made completely of snow. Later, in 1873, A. Ostrovsky wrote a play, called Snegurochka, basing many nuances on Afanasiev's fairy tales, which brought this new character into the fairy tale mainstream. Ostrovsky imagines Snegurochka as Grandfather Frost's (Santa Clause's) daughter, in love with a handsome boy.
