The 3-piece fine bone china set Petrushka is a true work of art! Petrushka is one of the most striking ballets by Igor Stravinsky, the famous Russian composer. Its music is so amazingly vivid and expressive, that one need not even look at the stage to know what is going on. Ballet's script was co-written by Stravinsky, S. Dyagilev, and A. Benois, while M. Fokine choreographed it. Most people agree, that the choreography in Petrushka became the pinnacle of Fokine's work, aided by the fact that the starring role of Petrushka was performed by V. Nijinsky, widely considered to be the greatest male ballet dancer of the early 20th century.
L. Tzvetkova, the creator of this set's design, is a multi-talented professional, equally great at painting porcelain tableware, as well as porcelain sculptures. Tzvetkova is working at reviving some of the greatest traditions of the Russian Imperial Porcelain, such as the XVIII century technique, called "leaf-to-leaf," using the absolutely unique in its whiteness and plasticity bone china mass.
Petrushka is a ballet-burlesque composed in 1910, with a score by Igor Stravinsky. First performed by Sergei Diaghelev’s Ballets Russes at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris in 1911. It tells a story of loves&jealousies of three puppets. Petrushka loves a ballerina but she rejects him, preferring the Moor. Petrushka is hurt so he challenges the Moor, who ends up killing him.
Petrushka is a folk character who became a symbol of the Russian ballet avant-garde of the 20th century. At that time noone would have thought that Petrushka will become the personification of a whole century. The brightness of colors and flair of the play has been fascinating more than a single generation of spectators.
