The original Blue Enamel Ribbed Imperial Egg is of three colors of gold with translucent sapphire blue enamel in a simplified Renaissance style. It is topped with an Imperial crown of gold set with faux sapphires and diamonds.

The egg rests on a swirled gold pedestal that fans out into a cup like formation of acanthus leaves. The Egg now contains a small aquamarine rabbit set with ruby eyes. Probably the original surprise was made of moonstone. This exquisite jewelry box is finished in the tradition of the works by the great Carl Faberge, one of the most prominent jewelers to the Russian Imperial Court.
