This traditional Russian shirt with collar fastening on one side, has long been an integral part of virtually every male costume in Russia. This shirt is usually decorated with red checkered or striped designs. It was made for every occasion, from work to holidays, differing in the style and amount of decorative embroidery. It is customary to wear it untucked and to use either a silk or a natural wool woven belt with it. This belt may either come with, or without tassels on its ends and is always tied on the left hip.
