Cathedral of the Mantle of Our Lady, also known as Saint Basil's Cathedral is an Orthodox Temple located on the Red Square in Moscow. It is a widely known monument of Russian architecture. Until the XVII century it was commonly called the Trinity Cathedral, as the original wooden church was dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The temple was also known as Jerusalem Cathedral due to the dedication of one of the chapels, as well as the being the destination for the Patriarch's religious procession from the Cathedral of the Assumption on Palm Sunday, called the Donkey Walk. St. Basil's Cathedral was built in 1555-1561 by the order of Ivan IV (the Terrible) to commemorate the capture of Kazan and the victory over the Kazan Khanate, which happened exactly on the day of the Intercession of the Mother of God - in the beginning of October 1552. As the legend has it, the architects of the cathedral (Barma and Postnik) were blinded by the order of Ivan the Terrible, so they could never build another such temple.
