Spiral Bead Embroidery
The spiral technique of embroidery is performed in a circular shape, starting from the middle – much like crocheting lace napkins.
Here are a few tips and tricks to help you make the job enjoyable and comfortable.
- Rectangular embroidery frames are better suited for spiral embroidery than hoops.
- Unlike other types of embroidery, spiral work utilizes many colors at once and not one at a time. For a smooth workflow, you will need all of the colors at your fingertips – consider a segmented tray or bead box.
- You will need more thread than usual, and likely thread of different colors.
- You can’t use just any pretty picture for spiral embroidery. For a beautiful result you will need a special broken down pattern, like one included in this kit.
- Spiral embroidery uses only small stitches, primarily back stitch and its variants to allow for stringing two beads but securing them one at a time.
- Locate the center of the spiral and work from there outwards. Pay attention to the pattern – sometimes there are multiple centers. The pattern will specify not only the color of the required bead, but also where to pierce the canvas with the needle. When you hit the edge of the picture, simply stitch around in an arch.
- It is crucial to secure the beads in place so that there is very little, if any, space between each bead. This is the primary criteria for an outstanding result - your attentiveness and care to every stitch will pay off!
