An ambroidered blouse is the traditional vyshyvanka. The sunflower has a long history with its origins attributed to the star - the enchanting flower radiates with brightness as if it were a miniature sun. In Greek, the sunflower is helianthos - the flower of the sun god Helios, known from the myth of Clytie's unrequited love for Helios. She was in love with the sun god for a very long time, but couldn't bring herself to tell him. Every day Clytia traced the movement of the sun across the sky, hoping that one day her beloved would notice her. Unfortunately, the god's gaze fell upon another, Leucothoe, driving Clytie mad with envy. She watched and suffered, losing the will to live with every moment. Her body shriveled and transformed into a beautiful sunflower, following her beloved's journey across the sky every day since.
Rich folklorica motives are always in fashion.
