The Mother of God. Seven Arrows. St. Nicolas Icon Pendant
This icon depicts the Mother of God with seven swords piercing her heart: three on the right, three on the left, and one at the bottom. The number seven symbolizes the fullness of sorrow, grief, and heartache experienced by the Virgin during her earthly life. In prayer, the “Softening of Evil Hearts” and “Seven-Arrows” icons are treated as one iconographic type.
Believers pray before this icon for protection from evil people and malicious intentions, for reconciliation among those in conflict, and for softening of their own hearts, cleansing from harmful thoughts, and relief from judgment.
On the reverse side of the miniature icon is Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, venerated as a healer, protector of travelers—especially by sea—a helper in trade and education, and a guide in finding a worthy spouse.
