This shape design was created by the Imperial Porcelain Factory in the mid-nineteenth century, with later additions, for the Heraldic set. The artist used traditional Russian motifs such as the multicolored floral ornaments, found, for example, on the walls of the Palace of Facets at the Moscow Kremlin. The design features the delicate floral bouquets paired with the golden edging and creates an effect of lightness, emphasizing the refinement and dignity of the snow-white fine porcelain. This Russian Imperial Porcelain Art Deco set is named after a truly historical district in Moscow, located near the Moscow Kremlin, on the bank of the Moscow River. This district is one of the oldest in the city, dating back to the early 1200's. During those early days of Moscow's existence, Zamoskvorechye stood apart from city center, both physically, and socially. For example, the district's residents, mostly merchants, normally went to bed early, when Moscow proper was still buzzing with life and started work very early in the morning, when the Moscovites were still asleep. Because of this calm and simple district, Moscow was often called a "big village."
