Saint Nicholas of Myra (c. 270 - c. 345) is revered by all Christian denominations. The people call him Nikolai the Wonderworker and Nikola the Pleasant. In every Russian house, from a hut to a boyar choir, next to the icons of the Savior and the Mother of God there was an icon of St. Nicholas. In Russia, they prayed to him for the harvest, for protection from all kinds of misfortunes. It was believed that everything that was asked of the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker would be granted with sincere faith in prayer.
